Do You Worry?
Hello! Welcome Back!
Have you ever have had a moment of worry or fear in your life? I would say, probably all of us have at least one time in our lives. If you would ask around, most people who know me would tell you that I am always worrying about something. My heart is full of worries and fears. This is something that I have struggled with for most of my life, I would say more now as an adult than as a child. Honestly, I think I am so used to worrying that I don’t know how not to worry. This is a battle I have with God. I know I need to work on it but then I worry about working on it and then it’s just a big spiraling circle.
I got a new study Bible for my birthday. I really wanted to dive into the Bible but I would open it and struggle to understand what I just read. I was having a conversation with my parents when they said I needed a study Bible…This thing is a coolest thing ever! This Bible will and has changed the way I read! If you don’t have one, I highly recommend it! I decided I wanted to study more on worrying, as it’s something I have struggled with for a long time and I am tired of it affecting my life.
In Genesis 6, it talks about Noah and the Ark. If you are not familiar with this story, I encourage you to read it. The world is full of evil and corrupt, and God had enough of the evilness. At the time, Noah was a righteous man and walked faithfully with God. God spoke to Noah and told him to build an ark. Imagine a big boat on the lake, now imagine that boat being 100x bigger, that was the ark. God’s plan was to flood the Earth but he wanted to save two of every creature. God promised Noah that he would save his family and the animals. So Noah began to build the ark. Once the ark was built, God made it rain for forty days and nights. This flood wiped out the evil in the world.
I heard this story all the time growing up, it never really phased me until I read it now. How crazy would it be to be asked to build this huge ark and know that there would be a flood to wipe out all the living expect that was on the ark. In this story, God took care of the details while Noah did his part that God gave him. God took care of the details. How amazing does that sound? God took care of the details and Noah only had to do his job. Noah did not have to worry about figuring out how he was going to get the animals on the ark. He did not have to worry about his family and how they would survive on the ark. Noah did not have to worry about the rain. He only had to focus on the task that God gave him.
After reading Noah’s story, I wanted to know more about worrying. God showed me more passages on focusing on His peace and trusting in Him. When we are worried about something or anything, we forfeit the feeling of peace through God. God tells us to refocus our hearts on his promises and trust in Him. When we refocus our hearts and minds to Him, we will find peace in the situation.
Matthew 6:34 NIV
“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
Philippians 4:6-7 NIV
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, ‘which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.’”
Colossians 3:15 NIV
“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.”
I will be practicing to give up my worries and fears to God from now on. I don’t know about you, but the feeling of peace sounds wonderful, especially in the world we live in today. I am starting a worry journal where I will write out my worries, then I will be praying to God about them. The idea behind this, is to teach me to give everything up to God. He is in charge of the details, so why do I need to worry about them? I encourage you to reflect on how you handle your worries and fears. Are you like me where you struggle with worrying, and need to practice giving them to God?
